The Phillies and whoever else is out there after Carlos Ruiz (Red Sox? Blue Jays?) have one less competitor toward the services of Carlos Ruiz.

Here's what we know:
Yesterday we learned that the Rockies were into Ruiz for two years with a third-year vesting option and that Ruiz told the Rockies he had a two-year, $20 million offer on the table. That team is reportedly NOT the Red Sox. That $20 million either came from the Phillies or another team.
Just a personal thought: the Yankees are in need of a decent catcher. They mostly went without a solic backstop after learning that Russell Martin was signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates. They would be a good fit for Ruiz. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported around the trade deadline that the Yankees were interested then, and their catching situation has not changed since. That picture probably is going to get clearer soon with teams dropping out.
