1,2,3,4,5… SIXERS!!!

Saturday night the Sixers got spanked for 24 minutes by the Chicago Bulls. At halftime I sat outside the arena as the Mrs. smoked, thinking about blowing off the second half. I wasn’t feeling great, she was tired, and there a birthday party we needed to get to. When she asked if I wanted to go back to
our seats or just take off, I didn't reject the idea. So I thought about it for a second before deciding to stay. It’s funny because I couldn’t help but think at the time, if I leave and they make a comeback, I’m an asshole. Anyway, long story short, we stayed and the second half was as exciting, and the crowd as electric, as any game I’ve ever been to at the WFC. Which takes us to today’s 1,2,3,4,5… Sixers: Here are the top 5 games I’ve attended since I started my first ticket plan 4 seasons back. (no particular order)

  1. May 10, 2012 vs. Chicago

Game six elimination of the Bulls, the lone series victory for the Sixers in the last decade. When Iggy got to the foul line the crowd held its breath to be sure, but Andre came through and after a near miss on a Chicago halfcourt prayer the celebration began.

2. May 23, 2012 vs. Boston

Not quite two weeks later, another game 6 thriller at the WFC. This game felt more validating than the Chicago win, which, while fun, was hollow with Derrick Rose on crutches. This win meant we were going to a game 7 against a bona fide title contender. It placed the Sixers in that second teir of not-quite contenders, and I really thought if we could turn Elton's money into something valuable, maybe we could be actual contenders. Also, I got a little drunk a harassed all the Boston fans as they filed out. "See you at the gahden!" ""Y'all played wicked hawd!"

3. November 2, 2012 vs. Chicago

MC DUB and the boys came back from 15 down at the half, the crowd was on its feet for the final 10 minutes, just a ton of fun.

4. April 24, 2011 vs. Miami

This was game 4 of a series the Sixers eventually lost in 5 games. I remember thinking we had no chance to the point that I refused to believe we had a chance to win this game even in the final minutes. Once Lou Williams dropped that 3-pointer though, all doubts were tossed aside and the party started. An awesome moment to end the Sixers first season under Doug Collins, which was a fun year regardless of how it ended a few years later.

5. February 6, 2012 vs. Lakers

The is the game when Kobe passed Shaq on the all-time scoring list. Lou Williams was the big star, and went on a 4th quarter rampage to beat the Lakers.  Part of the joy of this game was the fact that there a ton of Lakers fans in the house, as always. You see, Lakers fans are assholes. Normal fans cheer after a big play or a highlight, but not Laker fans. Laker fans give Kobe a standing ovation for tying his shoes, and they do it as obnoxiously as possible. To be a Laker fan is to be a troll, fuck them. The one good thing about these cockroaches is that they bring out the best in the Sixers fans around them, nothing is more fun than watching this Laker scum in their stupid Kobe jerseys file out with their heads hanging.

SIXERS!

My closer today is my favorite game from when I was a kid. Trivia question, who holds the record for most 3-pointers in a half by a Sixer? The answer may surprise you.

Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow with thoughts from Sixers vs. Warriors.
