On Dom not Dallas

Corey Seidman wrote about Dom Brown on Beerleaguer today on the dialogues that took place between Brown and fans after he rooted for the Dallas Cowboys on Twitter.

"Philly loves you but don't tell Philly fans you like the cowboys cause no one likes a cowboys fan," one fan tweeted at Brown.

His response: "Philly doesn't love me. I get boo's almost everynight. No big deal use to it."

Brown didn't get booed much in 2013, when he broke out with 27 homers in fewer than 500 at-bats. His receptions in previous years were colder because he hadn't proven himself offensively, and his defense was and still is shaky. Still, it's not like Phillies fans ever routinely jeered Brown, so it's a bit surprising he'd write something like that.

Seidman is right to think it is a bit surprising to read that.

Brown had a terrific year but he seemed to take two steps back for each step forward prior to 2013. Back in May, Ruben Amaro Jr. sort of took some blame for that.

Whoops!

One has to wonder if Brown, who is arbitration eligible after next season, resents that and the intermittent boos he received through his tenure in Philadelphia.

Perhaps his emotions snowballed from there as he had a solid year while the rest of the team floundered. Maybe each boo, benching, and being stranded on base slowly ate away at him.

This is pure conjecture, of course, but if there is any truth to the notion that Brown may be unhappy in Philadelphia, the Phillies are better off in the long run if they trade him.
