Friday Twitter Mailbag: Will the Eagles Make a Trade?

Each Friday morning we will select some of the top questions we receive on Twitter and give them the kind of insight and analysis that can't fit within 140 characters. To have your question asked simply tweet it to @MattLombardo975 or@EagledelphiaPA and check back each Friday morning to see if it makes the cut!

From @penseur71h: Do you see the Eagles making any trades by the deadline?

This is certainly a relevant question given the fact that the Eagles have played their way into the NFC East race and can take an early stranglehold on first place with a win over the Cowboys on Sunday and the fact that the deadline is looming large on at 4pm on October 29th.

I've long been a proponent of Howie Roseman and company making a play for Josh Gordon of the Cleveland Browns to bolster a receiving corps that is desperate for a second-option.

However, all indications are that Roseman and the front office are steadfast in their belief that you build a championship condtender from within and it appears highly unlikely that they would give up any asset-player or draft pick-to capitalize on this season. This is a long-term rebuild.

The only move I could see the Eagles making is a minor move towards adding a third running back if Chris Polk's injury keeps him out for any significant time.

From @TweetsFromMarz: If a starting QB went down this weekend for a playoff contender – would birds consider trading Vick?

It's an interesting premise, especially if Foles plays well enough Sunday to supplant Vick as the starting quarterback the rest of the season – which is a legitimate possibility at this point – but I can't see it happening.

There just isn't a market for a 33-year old quarterback who struggles to stay healthy and has shown that he struggles in the red zone. It's supremely difficult for a quarterback to grasp a new system midseason and if he's moved, this would be the third different offensive philosophy Vick would be forced to master in a hypothetical six days before playing a game.

From Jesse Butcher on Facebook:  Why dont we blitz like we used to with Jim Johnson as the D-cord?? I think our secondary can handle one on ones more and our d-line is ready to attack. Especially against Dallas?

Bill Davis said this week that he expects Trent Cole to break out with a high sack total sometime soon and that the defense would start to rack up sacks given their ability to pressure the quarterback in recent weeks.

But, I just don't see it coming this week.

Jason witten has feasted on this team throughout his career and with Dez Bryant, Miles Austin and Terrance Williams all at Tony Romo's disposal, I can't see Davis leaving his incosistent secondary on an island against those weapons.
