Monday Review: Is Foles the answer to offensive woes?

Nick Foles helped the Eagles score 14 fourth-quarter points in their 36-21 win over the Giants.

It had all the makings of another frustrating loss. The defense was invisible early. The offense couldn't score in the redzone. The Giants were in control.

Then something that many would consider to be icing on the cake actually helped revitalize the Eagles. Michael Vick suffered a hamstring injury late in the second quarter. Nick Foles jogged in and took over.

Foles led a scoring drive in the final two minutes – albeit another field goal. But it gave the Eagles more of a cushion.

When Foles was pressed into action again, with the Giants breathing down his neck with a high-scoring third quarter, he delievered again.

Sure, he had help from his defense, forcing three Eli Manning interceptions in the fourth quarter, but his passes were pinpoint and accurate. His first touchdown pass to Brent Celek was the first play following an interception by Mychal Kendricks.

Vick has had his moments as Eagles quarterback so far, even this season with an excellent debut against the Redskins. But Foles was also effective. It is a good problem for Chip Kelly to have – two quarterbacks that can march up the field.

But Foles finished the job. He scored points when the Eagles needed them most. This is not about leading scoring drives. This is about scoring touchdowns. Foles threw for two. Vick didn't throw for any.

Kelly assures that the starting quarterback job is still Vick's when he's healthy. But the Eagles certainly appeared to be in better hands with Foles leading the way. He provides more of a pocket presences. He looked calm. He certainly made better, more accurate passes.

Is Foles the answer? Who knows. But if Vick starts on Sunday against the Buccaneers and something doesn't appear right, Foles could win the starting job with another similar performance. With Sunday's win, he has to have his coach's attention at the very least.
