Lars Eller scored 12 seconds into the third period. The Canadiens scored three third-period goals in the Flyers 4-1 loss.
The Flyers season opener against the Leafs was a game that the Flyers controlled for two periods. They simply lost to a good goalie and a lot of tough luck.
Luck had nothing to do with Saturday's result. The Flyers played a bad game and it showed as they dropped their second game of the season to the Montreal Canadiens, 4-1.
After two early power-play opportunities went unsuccessful for the Canadiens, they would strike first on a goal by Brian Gionta eight minutes into the first.
For two periods, that was the only goal that held up as play was relatively uneventful.
Just 12 seconds into the third, things would quickly change. The Canadiens struck again, with Lars Eller picking up a bad carom and banking it in off Ray Emery for Montreal's second goal. The Canadiens would add two more power-play goals by Brendan Gallagher and Rene Bourque.
The Flyers lone goal also came via the power play. After assisting on the Flyers only goal of the season opener, Vincent Lecavalier buried a rebound for his first goal as a Flyer, then making it a 3-1 deficit.
Otherwise, Carey Price was solid stopping 22 of 23 shots. Emery was tested more, allowing four goals on 34 shots.
The Flyers don't have much time to regroup, as they travel to Carolina for their third game of the season against the Hurricanes. They are trying to avoid their second straight season starting at 0-3-0 after going 17 seasons without a start worse than that.
