It's been a rough season for the Phillies. Injuries, bullpen blowups, bad at bats, and bidding farewell to the winningest manager in club history Gambles on Michael Young, Delmon Young, Chad Durbin, and Mike Adams all went bust. Roy Halladay, the prized trade target of the Ruben Amaro Jr. years, has gone from staff ace to decline and injury plagued. Lots of questions to be answered. The first was answered this morning as Ryne Sandberg was named manager and signed a three year contract through 2016.
After two tough losses, Cliff Lee looks to end the final homestand on a winning note and who better to do it? Lee is coming off one of the best games of the season where he struck out fourteen and drove in four runs against Miami. Facing him is Carlos Torres who has been pretty good for the Mets this season and also completely kept the Phillies off balance in August where he held them to one run over 6.2 innings.
Pretty standard line up this afternoon. Cesar Hernandez continues to get a long look in centerfield and seems to have won Sandberg over leaving one to wonder what happens with him and Ben Revere.
