Zach Miner and Luis Garcia piggy backed for five innings of one run ball. Ethan Martin would enter in the 6th and surrender a two run moon shot from Giancarlo Stanton that may have actually reached the moon.
The Phillies didn't make it easy on Marlins starter Nathan Eovaldi who left after five innings and got really wild in the 5th allowing three runs (one on a pass ball, two on a single from Chase Utley). Both teams would swap scoreless bullpen frames including a perfect 8th from B.J. Rosenberg to bounce back from a tough night last night.
Jimmy Rollins reached with two outs in the 9th and stole two bags in vintage Rollins fashion but Utley was unable to drive him in. In the top of the 10th, fringe player Ed Lucas hit the go ahead home run for the Marlins off Cesar Jimenez. Marlins closer Steve Cishek made things very interesting in the bottom of the inning loading the bases with one out but escaped with the save.
Tip of the cap to the bullpen overall tonight though. This is the kind of game normally you'd chalk up as a loss, but they were able to make a game out of it. We've seen Raul Valdes ruin these games immediately in the past so it was good to see some strong frames from some of the younger arms in the back of the pen.
Phillies have an off day tomorrow before hosting the New York Mets on Friday at 7:05. Cole Hamels takes the mound against Daisuke Matsuzaka.
