The struggling Kevin Frandsen entered the game early due to a struggling Roy Halladay and an injured Domonic Brown. A triple later, he would be driven in by Michael Young and they would begin to erase a 5-0 deficit. Before the inning was over they would score three more and Frandsen would tie it up with a home run in the next inning. Michael Young had a four hit afternoon and drove in the winning run to give Ryne Sandberg a victory in his return home to Wrigley Field.
Halladay had a rough afternoon. Wrigley wasn't exactly a kind ballpark to him in his prime but his command was way off in this game. He hit two batters, walked two batters, allowed seven hits, and five earned runs. He's a work in progress right now as he works to come back.
All in all though, a very nice comeback win against a team that appeared to knock them out early. B.J. Rosenberg deserves a ton of credit as does the rest of the bullpen. Rosenberg, who induced many groans when called back up, including from yours truly has really done well in the 8th lately.
In other news, the Phillies have finally announced that they signed Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. They have him on a three year deal for 12 million which is quite the discount from what was originally reported. He's projected to join the rotation next season.
The Phillies are back at it tomorrow at 4:05. It's Cliff Lee vs. Chris Rusin who has been quite good since joining the rotation earlier this season.
