Ethan Martin gets another crack at the Braves, the team that roughed him up some in his major league debut. Martin has a tough act to follow after Cole Hamels' iron man 122 pitch outing last night and looks to improve on an outing which he won but also labored in. Turner Field is also Martin's hometown ballpark. Dan Uggla's has been placed on the DL to get eye surgery so that's one potentionally dangerous slugger out of the line up. Still there's the Uptons, Heyward, Freeman, Johnson, etc… which gave Martin quite a challenge almost two weeks ago.
Martin faces Kris Medlen who also faced during his debut. Medlen wasn't at his best that night but kept them in the game enough to get to Atlanta's elite bullpen. He hasn't been quite as strong as he was last season but Medlen is still good enough and chews up enough frames to keep the Braves in it. Martin will need to be better this time out against Atlanta if the Phillies are to have a chance.
Casper Wells gets his first start in red pinstripes tonight in centerfield and batting seventh. Erik Kratz spells Carlos Ruiz tonight with catching duties and bats eigth. As for the Braves, Tyler Pastornicky takes Uggla's spot at second base during his DL stint.
