Phillies Aim For .500 Behind Pettibone As White Sox Come To Town

Pettibonebraves
The Phillies have certainly showed signs of life in the first seven games of this 10-game home stand, going 5-2 against the Braves and Nationals. Kyle Kendrick was spectactular last night, allowing an earned run over seven innings to give the Phillies a 3-1 win over the Nats and a 3-1 series win. Tonight the Phillies will open a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox that conclude the first half of the season. With the All-Star Game on Tuesday, the Phillies are looking to pull out of this home stand at, or above .500. At 46-47, the Phillies will send out Jonathan Pettibone (5-3, 3.84 ERA) to open up a three-game series against the White Sox, who will send out John Danks (2-6, 4.31 ERA).

Jonathan Pettibone is coming off of a solid start against the Braves on Sunday. The right hander allowed just five hits, one run, one walk and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings to earn his fifth win of the year. With the Phillies in desperation of a win, Pettibone has been what they have needed him to be. In his last three games, Pettibone is 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA and 16 K. Pettibone has faced just two other American League teams this season (Cleveland and Boston). Against AL teams the right hander is 1-1 and has a 4.82 ERA (6 ER in 11 2/3 IP). This will be Pettibone's first career start against the ChiSox.

John Danks is coming off of his third straight quality start, but it also happened to be a loss. On Sunday against the Rays, the left hander allowed three earned on five hits through seven innings of work. With a lack of run support of late, Danks will look to continue pitching well and will hope for some offensive support in the mean time. In his last three starts, Danks is 1-2 with a 2.53 ERA (6 ER in 21 1/3 IP). Danks has faced three NL teams this season (Marlins, Cubs and Mets) and is 0-2 with a 5.26 ERA (10 ER in 17 1/3 IP). In one career start against Philadelphia, Danks is 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA.

Game Notes:

  • Delmon Young is hitting a career .390 (16-for-41) with 2 HR and 8 RBI against Danks.
  • Michael Young is hitting a career .273 (6-for-22) with 2 RBI against Danks.
