Because the Phillies Need More Bad News… Kyle Kendrick Has A Concussion

During Sunday's game in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, a sixth-inning pitch got away from Dodgers starter Stephen Fife.   It was the first pitch of the inning and Kyle Kendrick was stepping in to bat.   The pitch that got away?  Right to Kendrick's head.   And now he is hurt.   Despite running the bases after being hit and pitching the bottom of the sixth inning, Kyle Kendrick has a mild concussion, CBSSports.com reports.

So, now what?

Looking for wins it is possible Cole Hamels will not be skipped like the Phillies had planned.   Kendrick could hit the disabled list briefly should the team wish.   With growing concern over head injuries in sports, Major League Baseball instituted in 2011 a 7-day disabled list specifically for players who have a concussion.  Tyler Cloyd last pitched for AAA Lehigh Valley on Saturday, meaning he could occupy Kendrick's turn in the rotation on six days rest, should the Phillies desire.   The only problem with that is that Cloyd is 1-7 with a 7.79 ERA in AAA, despite being 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA in the big leagues.

No decison has been announced by the Phillies just yet.  Since he made the Phillies' last start, they have a few days to decide.
