Kendrick started the game with a 7 pitch first inning and
continued to be steady throughout the game. He went 7.2 innings, had 2 hits, 1
run, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. The bats for both the Phillies and Nats were
quiet (until the end), and both pitchers had excellent games (Gonzalez, 7 IP, 2
H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 11 Ks). Papelbon blew another save tonight.
Michael Young scored a two-run home run after Revere’s
single in the bottom of the first. 2-0, Phillies. The two RBIs from that
homerun were his 1,000 and 1,001 career RBIs.
Kyle Kendrick gave up his first run in the top of the
seventh off of Jayson Werth’s bat to bring home Zimmerman who walked earlier in
the inning, 2-1 Phillies.
Kendrick was pulled in the eighth for Bastardo, and Papelbon
came in to close out the game. A terrible throw by Galvis to Howard, and a
missed play by Papelbon gives the Nationals a base runner. He walks LaRoche and
Jayson Werth brings home a run, 2-2 tie.
Suzuki gets on by a misplay by Michael Young and gets to
third on a wild pitch. Adams gets out of the 10th inning with a popup to M.
Young.
Stutes came in to pitch the 11th.
He gave up one hit and walked the bases loaded with one out. Stutes gave up a
grand slam to Ian Desmond, 6-2 Nationals.
Nationals avoid the sweep, but the
Phillies still take the series.
