After Comeback Win Last Night, Pettibone, Phillies Look To Gain More Ground At Coors Field

So Freddy Galvis was fantastic last night going 2-for-5 with two triples while driving in 4 RBI to help the Phillies win in comeback fashion. Kyle Kendrick was lit up for seven earned runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. It was Kendrick's worst start of the year, but luckily he was given the no-decision. With last night's win the Phillies have pulled back within two games under .500. This afternoon they will attempt to make it three wins in a row as well as taking a series lead. Jonathan Pettibone (3-2, 3.70 ERA) and Tyler Chatwood (3-1, 2.14 ERA) will square off in an effort to shift directions in this series.

Jonathan Pettibone was hit hard his last time out. On Sunday against Milwaukee the righthander allowed four hits, six runs (four earned), two walks and struck out four in 5 1/3 innings. Although Pettibone has been struggling of late with a 4.96 ERA (9 ER in 16 1/3 IP) in his last three starts, it looks probable that he will stay in the starting rotation for the time being. John Lannan is slated to start Monday against Washington. This afternoon will be Pettibone's first career start against Colorado.

Tyler Chatwood hasn't pitched in nearly two weeks after suffering inflammation in his triceps back on June 3rd. In that start, against Cincinnati, Chatwood threw four innings allowing four hits and an earned run en route to a loss. In Chatwood's start prior to last Monday's, he struck out a career-high 10 hitters in a no-decision against the Astros. Chatwood has one career start against the Phillies, a no-decision back on September 9th. The Phillies scored two runs in five innings in a game that the Phillies would go on to win.

Game Notes:

  • Jake Diekman made his season debut last night, allowing a single to Carlos Gonzalez to start the bottom of the seventh inning. He stranded CarGo after getting two outs before being pulled.
  •  With the win Friday, the Phillies have won 27 of their last 33 games against the Rockies.
  • With his home run last night, Carlos Gonzalez tied Domonic Brown for the NL lead in home runs with 19.
  • Has Charlie Manuel tired of Delmon Young? John Mayberry makes his second consecutive start in right field.
