Charlie Manuel made a statement. Finally, Phillies General Manager did something about it. After not using left-headed reliever Raul Valdes between May 5 and May 15 with a blowout on each end, the Phillies finally cut the struggling reliever, whose ERA was approaching eight.
In his place will be right-handed reliever B.J. Rosenberg. Rosenberg had been pitching as a starter at AAA Lehigh Valley to a 1-3 record and 4.30 ERA. He may not stay long, as Phillies manager Charlie Manuel indicated that Justin De Fratus could be up for good. The Phillies are carrying an extra reliever until May 21, at which point starter Tyler Cloyd could return if the Phillies do not make another move.
