According to a Philadelphia 76ers team source, former Houston Rockets assistant GM Sam Hinkie has agreed to a multi year deal to become the team's new GM and president. Hinkie will be replacing Tony DiLeo as Sixers fans you should be excited by this move. The move will be officially announced early next week.

With Hinkie becoming the Sixers' new president he will take over Rod Thorn's job as he now becomes a consultant. Another interesting thing about Hinkie is that he will have full control of the Sixers' basketball operations.

If you haven't seen what Hinkie has done in the last few seasons in Houston then you must have not been watching basketball. This season the Rockets were in the playoffs and added James Harden in the offseason which has made a huge impact on the team. Hinkie worked in the Rockets' front office for eight years and became the youngest vice president in the NBA in 2007. Then in 2010, took a step up and became executive vice president.

Many people around the league consider Hinkie a salary cap specialist, which reminds me of Billy Beane and the Oakland A's with his money ball technique. Anyway with his methodology, I think the Sixers are in good shape. Just take a look at who the Rockets have drafted or acquired in the past couple of seasons: Chandler Parsons, Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, Jeremy Lin, Omir Asik, Thomas Robinson, Carlos Delfino, and James Harden who I mentioned earlier.

Also Houston's NBA D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers was this season's NBA Development League Champions. This is a good sign because the Sixers have a new NBA Development League franchise in the Delaware 87ers. All signs point to Sam Hinkie as being a great hire for the Sixers.

The team now focuses their attention on a new head coach as Hinkie will most definitely have his fingerprints on who becomes the Philadelphia 76ers new head coach for the 2013-14 season.
