The Phillies are on, the Flyers are on, and in the middle of that action Ryan Howard will be making a special TV appearance.  Howard will make a cameo appearance on NBC's "The Office".   In the storyline, Jim and Darryl are now working in Sports Marketing company "Athlead" in Philadelphia and will be working with Howard on their latest project.  Previously, Julius Irving made a similar appearance.

Howard reminded fans this morning on Twitter:

I never understood why the show named B.J. Novak's character "Ryan Howard" despite many former Phillies prospect references to the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons (such as the Mike Lieberthal and Marlon Byrd giveaways).   When the show's pilot episode debuted on March 24, 2005, Howard had already played 19 games in the major leagues and had a 2004 season with a combined 46 home runs.

"Ryan Howard" is not the only baseball name used on "The Office".  Kevin Malone was general manager of the Montreal Expos from 1994-1995 and the Los Angeles Dodgers  1998-2001.  There was also an Oscar Martinez who used to play in the New York Yankees system and an Andrew Bernard who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals but did not sign.  And of course we can't forget the long-time Houston Astros pitcher Michael (Mike) Scott.

"The Office" airs tonight on NBC at 9:00 p.m.  I'll be at a bar where I can simultaneously watch the Phillies and Flyers and have my DVR set for after the games.
