Ever had Godshall's turkey bacon? I have not either. There has been plenty of buzz the last few days about Erik Kratz's appearance in a Godshall Meats commercial for turkey bacon in which he talks to a cartoon turkey dressed as a pig. How did Kratz find himself in this position? It is in his blood.
You see, Kratz's father Floyd Kratz is Senior Vice-President and co-owner of Godshall's Quality Meats.
Phillies pitchers have praised Kratz's competitiveness and work behind the plate. In a 2007 interview while a member of the Syracuse Cheifs, Kratz connected his work ethic to his dad's butcher business:
"My dad is very competitive," Kratz said. "He's very strong and very hard working. I get my work ethic from him."
Floyd Kratz worked as a butcher and meat cutter and without a day of college is now a co-owner of a meat packing delivery company.
"We never went out to eat that much because we always had great food at home," Kratz said of the fringe benefits to be the son of a butcher. "One thing I got from my mom is my mild manner."
Mild, but yet wild enough to talk to a cartoon turkey in a commercial? I guess so.
So where does one buy some Godshall's Turkey Bacon? A search on their website shows that most area ACME loctions and Redner's Markets stock the product. The marketing is working great. I'm going to give it a try.
