Roy Halladay Says He’s Ready To Go, Wanted To Pitch The Phillies Opener

As Erik put in his preview, tonight's Roy Halladay Opener is big for the Phillies.  As fans we are watching with bated breath as we have with each of Halladay's Spring  Training starts after he gave up seven runs in two and two-thirds innings to the Detroit Tigers.   We learned today that Charlie Manuel was considering bumping Halladay back a few days, but Halladay says he is ready to go.

This gem comes from the Inquirer's Matt Gelb:

Manuel said he broached the subject of bumping Halladay to the weekend.

"How do you feel?" Manuel said he asked Halladay. Are you ready to pitch?"

"Yeah," Halladay said. "I wanted to to pitch the first game but you didn't want me to."

Of course we know Roy Halladay endorsed Cole Hamels to be the Opening Day starter.  It is still nice to know that Halladay has a fire in his belly burning to pitch.  He may not be his old self physically but is still his old self mentally.  I'll take it.
