A walk off home run was not enough in today's 7-6 victory over Atlanta to help Darin Ruf make the Phillies roster. Despite his offense coming around in recent weeks Ruf's defense needs work. On a day Delmon Young had four hits in a minor league game in which he homered.
The Phillies also released pitcher Rodrigo Lopez. I wonder if something happened behind the scenes; Lopez seemed to be a good bet to be inventory at AAA Lehigh Valley. If Aaron Cook accepts a role at Lehigh Valley then he could fill the role of fill-in starter. After a nice start by Adam Morgan today they may feel they have better options among the young.
Going forward the Phillies will have to figure out who gets the role of fifth outfielder until Delmon Young is ready. It won't be Jermaine Mitchell either, who was also optioned. Does Ender Inciarte have the inside track? We shall see.
