Today was not a good day for Roy Halladay.

The Phillies and Tigers squared off this afternoon in Clearwater with Doc on the hill against Drew Smyly. Doc stayed in for 2.2 innings, tossing 69 pitches total. His line from this afternoon: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 7 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 2 HR.

The Tigers took an early lead in the top of the first with an RBI single from Andy Dirks which scored Quintin Berry. The Phils tied it up in their half of the first with a grounder from Chase Utley which brought home Ben Revere.

In the top of the second, Alex Avila was sent home via two-run homer off the bat of Don Kelly. 3-1 Tigers.

The next inning would be the last that Doc would see this afternoon. After walking Victor Martinez, Doc gave up a double to Avila, and hit Don Kelly. Bases loaded for Ramon Santiago who proceeded to smack the life out of a fastball, sending it past right field for a grand slam. 7-1 Tigers.

Jeremy Horst came in for 1.1 innings after Doc was replaced. Horst struck out one, and did not allow a hit.

The Phils got two runs back in the bottom of the third after Kevin Frandsen singled to bring home Ben Revere and Yuniesky Betancourt.

In the top of the fifth, Jake Diekman took the hill. He allowed a single to Jhonny Peralta, retired the next two batters, gave up a two-run homer to Brayan Pena, then retired Quintin Berry with a strikeout.

With a score of 9-3, Chase Utley (DH) homered to right to bring home Revere and make it a 9-5 game.

Diekman was still in for the sixth inning when he allowed two doubles, one of which was to Alex Avila which brought home another run. 10-5 Tigers.

Raul Valdes pitched three shutout innings this afternoon, allowing just one hit, and striking out four.

With half an inning left to play, the Phils weren't done just yet. After Betancourt and Ender Inciarte singled, Cesar Hernandez grounded into a force out which sent home a run.

And that wraps up the ballgame. Tigers take this one, 10-6.

Tomorrow night, yes, night, the Phils and Yankees will be in Tampa to face one another.
