Cliff Lee and Company Take On Twins Split Squad This Afternoon
The Phillies pulled above .500 for the spring with yesterday's 6-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Roy Halladay dealed over four innings, despite a little controversy surrounding his throw behind OF Tyler Moore.
Halladay said after his outing that the pitch slipped, but many are wondering about this claim. Earlier in the game, Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg plugged Chase Utley.
“Yeah, that one slipped a little bit,” said Halladay, easing out a slight smile. “It slipped. That’s not necessarily the case, but I think we do need to protect our guys to an extent. I’m not saying that’s what happened. It slipped, but I think that’s important."
Interesting.
Today, the Phillies will take on the Twins today for the second time this spring. Cliff Lee will make his third start of the spring today against the Twins. Lee was knocked around quite a bit in his last start on Saturday against the Blue Jays. Lee surrendered three earned runs on five hits and collected three strike outs over three innings of work.
Opposing Lee will be Kyle Gibson, who is making his third start of the spring as well. In Gibson's last outing, a short one against Boston, he allowed three hits (one being a home run that accounted for the run he gave up) over 1 2/3 innings. The 25 year-old right-hander will see the Phillies' lineup for the first time ever.
