Carlos Ruiz is More Lovable Than Ever

Chooch

Over the last two seasons, Carlos Ruiz has become the most popular player on the Phillies roster. He has been admired for his unique combination of playing ability and adorableness (it's a word). Not once had we heard any news of Chooch being linked to banned substances or any other form of cheating. So, it came as a surprise to many when Ruiz received a 25-game suspension from Major League Baseball for illegal use of the drug Adderall.

Now that pitchers and catchers have arrived in Clearwater, the pre-season interviews have begun. Thanks to John Clark of NBC10, we heard some pretty heart-tugging quotes from Philly's favorite catcher. If you want a reason to fall in love with Chooch, read on.

In regards to his suspension, Ruiz said, "I feel bad. I apologize to my organization. I apologize to the fans."

You don't have to apologize. About anything. Ever.

"I made a mistake."

We all do, buddy.

"I got caught twice. I'm paying for it."

Don't worry ab…Well yea. That was a questionable decision.

Chooch went on to discuss going into the final year of his contract. A confident Ruiz said that he'll be able to duplicate last year's numbers and remain an asset to this team. He would then finish the interview by (presumably) making any person within earshot of his voice sob uncontrollably. With little Chooch tears welling up in his eyes, he stated:

"I feel so sorry."

Pardon me while I finish this box of Kleenex…

In all seriousness, one of the headlines going into this season will be watching Carlos try to keep up his performance. Will he recline to his pre-2010 numbers? Or will the new and improved Chooch be here to stay? Only time will tell, but don't expect his performance to dampen his new found fandom. In fact, don't expect Ruiz to be leaving Phillies pinstripes any time soon.
