B.J. Rosenberg is the first out of the gate to take on a hungover Nationals in a tune up game as the Phillies seek to finish with a winning season. I suppose there could be worse scenarios considering the circumstances. While Rosenberg certainly had a brutal start to his time in the majors, he's looked half decent in long relief.
Likely following him will be Phillies farmhand Tyson Brummett. Brummett is coming off a pretty successful season as a swing man in between Reading and Lehigh Valley. He pitched to a 3.20 ERA, 83 K, 29 BB,and a 1.14 WHIP. He was keeping his arm fresh for winter ball in Venezuela and it earned him a cup of coffee in the major leagues. I always like these stories and I've seen quite a bit of Brummett the past few seasons in my trips to the minor league parks.
Facing them, at least for now, is Tom Gorzelanny, who is starting for Gio Gonzaelez, who gets the luxory of rest now after a Cy Young worthy campaign this season. I won't lie, I hated watching the Nationals clinch last night but was glad it came during a loss. Made it a tad easier to swallow. Should tonight's game go smooth, thank the efforts of Kyle Kendrick. It was some second half he put together.
The Nationals are going with a bullpen/bench game of their own.
