Phillies Finish Off Doubleheader, Rockies Series With a 7-4 Win in Series Sweep

If you were hoping for a game with lots of hitting and lots of excitement, you watched the right ballgame this evening. After taking game one of this doubleheader with a walk-off victory, the Phillies were looking for a clean sweep of the Rockies tonight in game two.

The Phillies scored first this evening in the bottom of the second. Ty Wigginton scored on a single hit into center by Michael Martinez.

In the top of the third, Ramon Hernandez singled to score Jordan Pacheco, tying up the ballgame. In the same inning, the Rockies had two men on for Chris Nelson who hit an absolute moonshot into the seats in left field. 4-1 Colorado.

Tyler Cloyd's night was done after four innings and 76 pitches. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out two. Justin De Fratus pitched a scoreless inning to follow, striking out one, and sending the Rockies down 1-2-3. 

Ryan Howard already has 2 RBI today which came about in the first game of the doubleheader. He added two more tonight with a double in the fifth. Howard slid into second and was ruled out, but the runs had already scored. 4-3 ballgame.

B.J. Rosenberg pitched a scoreless sixth inning, striking out two. 

In the sixth, Ty Wigginton tied it all up at 4 with a solo home run to left field to start off the inning. After Michael Martinez singled, Carlos Ruiz came in to pinch hit in his first appearance back from the disabled list. Chooch singled, putting runners on the corners. Martinez scored on an infield single from Kevin Frandsen, giving the Phillies a 5-4 lead.

Josh Lindblom came in for the top of the seventh, and after walking two, was replaced by Jake Diekman who retired the side.

In the home half of the inning, Dom Brown doubled, then Martinez was safe at first on an infield single. Next, Carlos Ruiz came through with an RBI single to center. Martinez then scored on an RBI single from Nate Schierholtz. 7-4 Phils. 

Jonathan Papelbon came in to seal the deal in the ninth and did so with two strikeouts. The Phillies have swept the Rockies, and are now two games under .500. 

The Marlins are in town for a three-game series starting tomorrow at 7:05. Kyle Kendrick will get the start against Wade LeBlanc.
