In a Surprising Move, Phillies Activate Catcher Carlos Ruiz from the Disabled List; Disable Polanco

Chooch

Wow, I did not see this coming.

As recently as last week, the Phillies seemed to indicate that Carlos Ruiz would not be back in 2012.  Given the Phillies incredibly small odds of a postseason birth and the danger of playing on an injured ankle, I personally did not expect to see Chooch again in 2012.

But, according to CSN Philly.com, Ruiz has been activated from the disabled list.  Heading to the disabled list is third baseman Placido Polanco, who has been limited to light pinch-hitting duties in recent days due to an injured back.

Prior to the injury, Ruiz was having his best major league season, hitting .335 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.
