Offense Slumps in 2-1 Loss to Reds
The Phillies scored first tonight in Cincy thanks to a bases-loaded walk from Dom Brown which forced in Chase Utley. 1-0 Phils in the fourth.
In the following inning, Jimmy Rollins collected hit no. 2,000 of his career with a double down the right field line. He's the fourth Phillie in franchise history to have 2,000+ hits.
Kyle Kendrick was looking sharp as usual through six innings. Unfortunately, Jay Bruce would take a Kendrick fastball deep for a two-run blast in the sixth, giving the Reds a 2-1 lead.
After the end of the sixth, Kendrick was done. His line from tonight: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. 91 pitches, 61 for strikes.
Josh Lindblom pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. After BJ Rosenberg walked one in the eighth, Charlie Manuel switched him for Jake Diekman with two outs on the board. Dieks walked Jay Bruce, which led to Justin De Fratus entering the game.
To continue the trend, De Fratus walked Todd Frazier. Finally, the third out was recorded thanks to Scott Rolen who flied out to right field.
Aroldis Chapman closed it out for the Reds, securing the 2-1 lead.
Rubber match tomorrow at 12:35 with Roy Halladay taking on Mike Leake.
