The Phillies have added an extra position player with the addition of utility infielder/outfielder Pete Orr to the active roster.   Orr, taken off the 40-man roster earlier this season after playing 23 games for the Phillies early on.  The Phillies created space for Orr by outrighting Hector Luna off of the roster, who opted free agency and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Orr hit .286 for the Phillies this season.

While the Phillies' 40-man roster sits at 40, the Phillies could create more spots but using the 60 day disabled list for Michael Stutes, Freddy Galvis, Vance Worley, or Carlos Ruiz.

AA Reading did indeed make the playoffs, so don't expect to see Darin Ruf just yet, should the Phillies be planning to add him.  They probably will want to protect him from the Rule 5 draft in the offseason so adding him to the 40-man roster is not going to hurt the team.   The Eastern League playoffs are two five-game series and would go no later than September 15, giving Ruf some time at the end even if Reading were to play through the end.
