Phillies' OF Nate Schierholtz has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right toe, according to the Phillies. Infielder Hector Luna has been recalled to take his spot on the roster.
The Phillies acquired Schierholtz from the Giants in the deal that sent Hunter Pence to San Francisco back on July 31st. In 11 games with the Phillies, Schierholtz is hitting .219 (7 for 32) with a home run and two RBI.
While Schierholtz is now on the DL it seems like the Giants got the upperhand in the trade, so far. In 12 games with the Giants, Pence is hitting .154 with 1 home run and 11 RBI. Only time will tell with Tommy Joeseph, who the Phillies also acquired for Pence.
Hector Luna is making his third call-up of the season tonight. In 26 games with the big league club, Luna is hitting .246 with two home runs (one a grand slam) and 10 RBI. Luna also gives the Phillies depth in the infield.
