I guess they really are desperate to hurry up games.  Perhaps they are hoping that if the game is 60 minutes long, the people of Los Angeles will actually stay for the whole game.   Major League Baseball is taking action in the form of a stern warning, Baseball Prospectus reported the other day.

It seems reliever Mike Ekstrom took too long to warm up against the Phillies on July 14th and July 15th when the Phillies visited Denver.  Did you notice?  No, me neither.  But it was enough to warrant an official MLB warning from Joe Garagiola, Jr.   Check out the letter here:

Baseball had/has lots of problems with performance-enhancing drugs, attendance floundering in cities like Oakland, Cleveland, and St. Petersburg, and the talent level being so bad that players like Michael Martinez have to be in the major leagues.  They are spending their time and money on this?

Thanks to @jjbuttons for once again passing on the great stuff.
