Cole Hamels was completely dominant last night as he shut out the Braves for his first complete game shut out since Game 3 of the 2010 NLDS. Hamels earned his 12th win of the year as he allowed just five hits while striking out six. Hamels evened up the series with the Braves at one-a-peice as well as snapping the Phillies' seven-game losing streak against their NL East rivals. Tonight Kyle Kendrick (4-9, 4.45 ERA) will aim to take the series win as he makes the start against Tim Hudson (11-4, 3.45 ERA) and the Braves.
Kendrick was placed back in the rotation after Joe Blanton was traded on Friday. He made his last start the same day against the D-backs. In a losing effort, Kendrick allowed two earned runs on five hits through four innings. Kendrick has only won two decisions in his last eight outings. In his last start prior to Friday's, back on July 6, he tossed seven scoreless innings against the Braves in a winning effort. The righty only allowed four hits in that game to improve his career record against the Braves to 6-1. Kendrick holds a 2.28 ERA over 75 innings against the Braves.
In Tim Hudson's last start, he won his 100th game with the Braves, his 11th of the season and the 192nd of his career. The veteran righty held the Astros to an unearned run on four hits through 7 1/3 innings on Friday. Hudson has pitched over 117 innings this season and has walked only 31 while striking out 71. Over his last three starts, Hudson is 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA. Back on July 29, Hudson tossed just five and two-thirds innings of two-run ball against the Phils in a winning effort. He allowed just seven hits while striking out five and walking none. In his career against the Phillies, Hudson is 9-8 with a 3.52 ERA.
