Phillies Win 3-0 Over The Padres
Posted by Danielle Wilson
The first game of a four-game series in San Diego kicked off with a 3-0 win for the Phillies. Saying Roy Oswalt pitched well is a complete understatement. He tossed a no-hitter through four innings, but only lasted six due to a high pitch count. His line: one hit, two walks, six strikeouts. Much better than Matt Latos who walked five batters, allowed four hits and three runs in four and 1/3 innings pitched. While walking into the clubhouse, you could clearly see Latos kicking the walls and doors out of frustration. It was pretty funny.
In the second inning, Ben Francisco and Brian Schneider both launched solo home runs to give the Phils a nice 2-0 lead. BenFran also hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Polanco.
Placido Polanco went 2-4 tonight with a walk and reached base four times (once on a fielding error). Ryan Howard…0-5 with four strikouts, three were swinging. Ouch.
Antonio Bastardo came in for 1/3 of the seventh and eighth inning and pitched up to par; allowing just one hit, issuing one walk, and striking out two.
Jose Contreras closed it out, protecting the Phillies' 3-0 lead going into the ninth. Roy Oswalt got the win, and the Phillies are now 12-6 for the season.
