Cole Hamels took the mound today against Derek Lowe in the rubber match of the series. Chooch started behind the plate today, and Michael Martinez started at second in replace of Wilson Valdez who Charlie allowed to take the day off.
Cole tossed three straight 1-2-3 innings, striking out four, which was a much better start than his last one.
Shane Victorino hit his second single of the day in the fourth, and after some fantastic base running, he scored on Jimmy Rollins' double play, which he did not get an RBI for, which leaves him still at zero for the season.
Cole allowed the first hit of the day for the Braves in the fourth, a double to Nate McLouth, but he would not score. He pitched another 1-2-3 in the fifth, striking out Gonzalez.
Shane did it all today, and in the sixth, he hit his first homerun of the season to right field to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.
Cole Hamels allowed 2 hits in the seventh, but still didn't allow a run to score. After grounding out Freddie Freeman, the inning was over and Cole was done. His line from today: Seven IP, four hits, 1 walk, eight strikeouts.
Ryan Madson came in for the eighth inning with a closer's mentality, and after striking out Brooks Conrad, he allowed a single to Martin Prado, but got Nate McLouth to ground into a double play to end the inning.
Jimmy Rollins led of the ninth with a lead-off triple off of Braves' closer Kimbrel, and he scored on Ryan Howard's RBI groundout. 3-0 Phillies.
Jose Contreras pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to end the game, and help the Phillies take the series in Atlanta.
On Tuesday, the Phillies will visit the Nationals in D.C. with Joe Blanton starting.
