Phillies-Rays, Phillies-Pirates Re-cap, March 12th

On this lovely Saturday afternoon, the Phillies and Rays went at it at Bright House Networks Field. Kyle Kendrick took the mound for the Phils, but there was also a split-squad game played against the Pirates in Bradenton in which Vance Worley started.

Some notes: Charlie Manuel received 2 standing ovation's for picking up foul balls, and Ryan Madson struck out 6 batters in 2 innings pitched. There's the excitement of the game.

Phillies-Rays

Scoring Plays:

• 2^nd inning: Benny and Delwyn both walked, Matt Miller RBI single.
• Ben Zobrist hit a 2-run homerun against KK, Johnny Damon followed with a solo shot.
• 4^th inning: Following Matt Joyce’s triple, Dan Johnson hit a 2-run homerun
• 6^th inning: B.J. Upton scored Matt Joyce (doubled) on an RBI double.
• 8^th inning: Tim Kennelly doubled and scored Tony Hanzawa (grounded into force out, safe at first).

Final score in Clearwater: Rays 6, Phillies 2.

Phillies-Pirates

Scoring plays:

• 1^st inning: After Pete Orr tripled and Ross Gload walked, Raul Ibanez singled scoring Orr. Ryan Howard walked, then John Mayberry singled, scoring Gload and Ibanez. Valdez joined the hit party with a single, and catcher Erik Kratz grounded out, scoring Howard.
• 4^th inning: Pete Orr and Ross Gload both tripled, Gload scoring Orr. Brandon Moss doubled to score Gload and Ibanez (walked). Mayberry singled and scored Brandon Moss.
• Lyle Overbay hit a solo homerun against Vance Worley.
• 7^th inning: Cory Sullivan hit a 2-run homerun (Pete Orr singled)
• David Herndon on the mound, he walked 2 and allowed a single before Cole White singled and scored Chase d’Arnaud. Matt Hague singled afterwards and scored 2.
• 9^th inning: Cory Sullivan doubled and scored Tuffy Gosewich (singled).

Final score in Bradenton: Phillies 11, Pirates 4.

Tomorrow, the Phillies will play the Twins at the Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
