Andrew Sendejo garnered a reputation among Philadelphia Eagles fans this season when he nearly crippled corner Avonte Maddox with a helmet to helmet collision and lost the Eagles another one of their corners for four weeks.

Having played nine games, his time in Philadelphia has come to an end.

By releasing him, the Eagles remove the final free agent counting against their compensatory picks and should gain a fourth-round pick, though it could become a fifth depending on how Golden Tate’s suspension factors into the formula.

Had Sendejo suited up for his tenth game with the team, he would have counted against the Eagles even if they released him later in the season.

The move shows that the Eagles intend to play the compensatory pick game and should leave the Eagles in a very good spot with regards to picks for the earlier parts of the 2020 draft.

In a bit of an odd twist of fate, the pick that would likely be pulled off the board for the Eagles getting the additional pick would be a seventh-round pick that the Vikings would have received – for Andrew Sendejo leaving.

Sendejo had actually played only a handful more defensive snaps than he did special teams snaps. It is not immediately clear what they will do with his roster spot, but Jordan Matthews was reportedly in for a workout today.

As for his defensive snaps, Rudy Ford is temporarily elevated to the third safety spot unless the Eagles choose to deploy Maddox as the third safety.

The team has also been using some four linebacker sets instead of three safety looks in some of their recent games.

If they are looking for a safety to add to the roster, Tre Sullivan and Corey Graham are free agents who know the system. They could also take a shot on veterans like Glover Quinn or Eric Berry, though both are old and not nearly as good as they once were, or take a shot on someone like D.J. Swearinger if they feel his locker room presence would not be disruptive.

The team currently has no defensive backs on their practice squad, and the only one recently waived was CB Ajene Harris.

The team may also just be comfortable with Ford, Nate Gerry (a college safety, which could allow for the fourth linebacker to come in) or Maddox taking over his snaps.
