By Matt Gregan, Sports Talk Philly Editor 76ers Sign Marial Shayok to Two-Way Contract

Marial Shayok impressed in his first two Summer-League games and has been rewarded with a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He has averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game so far in the Summer League.

"Marial is a natural-born scorer who is committed to being a tough defender," general manager Elton Brand said in a statement released to the media. "He's a great person and a talented basketball player who can stretch the floor and knock down the three-point shot. We look forward to growing Marial within our programs in both in Philadelphia and Delaware."

The 76ers are only allowed to sign up to two players to two-way contracts. With the team having already signed Norvel Pelle to a two-way contract last week, this means that the team has used up both of their two-way slots on their roster.

This is bad news for a guy like 7-foot-4 big man Christ Koumadje, who was fighting to receive a two-way contract with the 76ers. Koumadje has had an up-and-down Summer League thus far, averaging 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. With both of the two-way slots on Philadelphia's roster now used up, Koumadje's opportunity to join the 76ers' NBA roster is gone.

Shayok had a small opportunity to make the team as a full-time player, but the team chose to use him as a two-way player. They are clearly going the route of filling their roster with veteran players, and Shayok (this year's second-round pick) doesn't fit that bill.
