Eagles Claim Safety Godwin Igwebuike Off Waivers
By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Editor
The San Francisco 49ers brought in eight new players through the NFL draft last weekend. They also waived seven players.
One of those players was Godwin Igwebuike. He will now find himself in an Eagles uniform for training camp.
A safety, Igwebuike has spent time with the Buccaneers and the San Francisco 49ers since going undrafted in 2018.
A three-year starter who also saw quite a few snaps in his rookie season at Northwestern, Igwebuike totaled 324 tackles, seven interceptions, 23 defensed passes, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in the Big Ten.
During his one season in the NFL, he was used primarily on special teams, but saw limited snaps as a depth safety. In six games, he had two tackles – one for each of the teams he played for.
Igwebuike will now compete with Malcolm Jenkins, Rodney McLeod, Tre Sullivan, Andrew Sendejo as well as some other undrafted free agents, such as Temple’s Delvon Randall, to prove that he is a contributor worth keeping in the building.
