Two games remain for the Flyers after Tuesday night and they can't come soon enough for the Flyers. It was clear the team had run out of gas as their playoff hopes ended officially over the weekend, but the results continue to get progressively worse as the season reaches the finish line.
The Stars scored two goals in each period on their way to a 6-2 win over the Flyers on Tuesday night, handing the Flyers their third straight loss and eighth in the last 11 games.
It got ugly for the Flyers early, as the Stars struck for two goals on their first two shots of the game.
Off a neutral zone turnover, Jason Dickinson scored in transition at 1:34 to make it 1-0 and Esa Lindell used a nifty tip-in on the power play to make it 2-0 at 4:14.
The Flyers came back to outshoot Dallas, 9-5, in the opening period, but trailed 2-0 after one.
Early in the second, the Flyers got on the board with Oskar Lindblom finishing off a nice play by Nolan Patrick for his 15th goal of the season.
The Flyers tied the game on a power play midway through the period with a point shot by Shayne Gostisbehere, his ninth of the season.
At that point, the Flyers were outshooting Dallas, 19-9, in the game and taking control of the play. A power play for Dallas quickly turned things back in their favor and put the game away.
Alexander Radulov scored on the power play with 3:21 remaining the second to give Dallas the lead back and Tyler Pitlick added a goal at 4-on-4 with 1:20 remaining in the period to make it 4-2 Dallas.
Midway through the third, the Stars got two goals in 10 seconds as Blake Comeau scored from a sharp angle and Radulov added his second off a Flyers breakdown to make it 6-2.
Cam Talbot made 24 saves in the loss. Anton Khudobin was solid in goal for Dallas making 32 saves in the win, as the Stars locked up a spot in the playoffs.
The Flyers have one more game on the road in St. Louis on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
