The Philadelphia Phillies (1-1) will take on the Detroit Tigers (1-0) at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida, Sunday afternoon, in the first of a two-game, two-day home-and-home matchup. Right-handers Drew Anderson and Tyson Ross will square off.
The Tigers have won each of their first two spring exhibition contests thus far — 13-2 over the Southeastern University Fire on Friday at home, and 4-0 over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday on the road. The Tigers' Sunday matinee against the Phillies will be their 2019 spring Grapefruit League home opener.
The Phillies fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates in their respective home opener on Saturday, 3-2, as shortstop Jean Segura (1-3), outfielder Andrew McCutchen (0-2, SO) and catcher J.T. Realmuto (0-2, SO) made their club debuts. Phillies No. 6-ranked prospect RHP Enyel De Los Santos started the game; he struck out four of his seven batters faced and allowed only one to reach base (Jose Osuna hit by pitch). Outfielder Dylan Cozens (RBI double) and non-roster invitee catcher Matt McBride (solo home run) produced the Phillies' runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Rhys Hoskins doubled, while Seranthony Dominguez tossed a 1-2-3 third inning in relief of De Los Santos.
