While the Philadelphia Phillies' truck filled with spring training equipment departs Citizens Bank Park for Clearwater, Florida, the club inked veteran utility player Sean Rodríguez to a minor-league contract with an invitation to big-league camp on Friday, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

Rodríguez, 33, has played 11 seasons since debuting with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in April 2008. Over 1,023 career games, the Miami, Florida, native has slashed .226/.300/.380 with 119 doubles, 14 triples, 77 home runs, 286 RBI, 41 stolen bases, 206 walks and 728 strikeouts spanning 2,761 plate appearances. In the field, Rodríguez has played all positions except catcher (and pitcher), with the most experience at second base — 335 games, 2,227 innings, and 16 errors over 1,185 chances (98.6 percent).
Over the last two seasons, Rodríguez has slashed just .167/.277/.305 between 326 plate appearances with the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates; his family was involved in a serious, near-fatal car accident in January 2017, which resulted in him undergoing surgery for a torn rotator cuff.
Rodríguez is now the Phillies' sixth non-roster invitee infielder, joining the already-signed Malquin Canelo, Phil Gosselin, Gift Ngoepe, Gregorio Petit and Andrew Romine.
