One day after the Philadelphia Phillies' first spring training workout in Clearwater, Florida, the club and ace Aaron Nola will engage in an arbitration hearing, scheduled for Thursday, February 14, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
Nola, 25, has "no hard feelings" and said "it's a business" regarding the Phillies failing to meet his $6.75 million request for 2019; the Phillies reportedly instead offered $4.5 million, a difference of $2.25 million.
Nola was the only Phillies player, among the nine eligible, to not avoid the arbitration hearing process. He made $573,000 in 2018, and finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting and 13th in the National League Most Valuable Player voting.
The eight Phillies players to avoid arbitration are: Aaron Altherr ($1.35 million), Jose Alvarez ($1.925 million), Jerad Eickhoff ($975,000), Maikel Franco ($5.2 million), Cesar Hernandez ($7.75 million), Adam Morgan ($1.1 million), Hector Neris ($1.8 million), and Vince Velasquez ($2.249 million)
