The Philadelphia Phillies looked to be a favorite in the Patrick Corbin sweepstakes, even telling the left-hander on Tuesday that they wouldn't be out-bid. Turns out that isn't the case as Corbin has reportedly agreed to a six-year deal with the Washington Nationals.

Can confirm the Corbin deal is for six years, and pending a physical, which is important.

According to Jon Heyman, the deal is worth $140 million. Heyman also tweets that the Phillies, like the Yankees, offered Corbin five years instead of six.
The Nationals have an even stronger pitching rotation with Corbin added to the duo of Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. That being said, Washington now has $525 milliom committed to the three, so does that eliminate them from bringing back Bryce Harper? We'll have to wait and see. The Phillies have been known to covet Harper and Manny Machado.
Meanwhile, with Corbin off the market, the Phillies continue to keep their eye on 36-year-old left-hander J.A. Happ.

The former Phillies farmhand went 17-6 with a 3.65 ERA in 177.2 innings pitched last season for the Yankees.
