Report: Flyers to Name Chuck Fletcher as New GM
By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor
It looks like the Flyers have found a new GM.
According to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, the Flyers will name Chuck Fletcher as the new GM of the team.
Fletcher, 51, would become the eighth GM in franchise history. He spent nine seasons as the GM of the Minnesota Wild from 2009 to 2018. He had been serving as a senior advisor with the Devils organization this season, his first in the role.
In the report from Philly.com, an executive within the Flyers organization was quoted saying, "I think it’s how you treat your people, so everybody is included as to what’s going on. The people who work for you have to know you trust them and want their opinions and care about them — and it will be returned every time. Chuck will have that.
"He’ll do a great job in Philly. Everybody’s going to be happy to work for him. Everybody’s going to be happy he’s there. His reputation, which is pretty easy when you talk to scouts and all those who have worked for him, is top-level. Everybody enjoyed working for him. Everybody wanted to work for him. Everybody felt part of the team.”
Fletcher interviewed with the Flyers on Thursday and was reportedly the top candidate for the job since the position opened up last week in the wake of the firing of Ron Hextall. Fletcher will have the task of finishing what Hextall started.
More is sure to come on this development as the next few days progress. The Flyers are next on the ice on Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m.
