First baseman Tommy Joseph — one of three players the Philadelphia Phillies acquired in the July 2012 Hunter Pence trade to the San Francisco Giants — is headed to the Korea Baseball Organization.
Joseph, 27, signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the league's LG Twins on Monday, according to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.
The Phoenix, Arizona, native played two big-league seasons with the Phillies in 2016 and 2017, combining for 200 hits (42 doubles, 43 home runs), 116 RBI, 55 walks and 204 strikeouts spanning 249 games and 880 plate appearances. Joseph slashed .247/.297/.460, while committing only 15 errors at first base over 1,729 innings and 1,669 chances.
Joseph spent all of 2018 with the Texas Rangers' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, after being claimed off waivers from the Phillies on March 19. The Phillies designated Joseph to make room for newly signed RHP Jake Arrieta on the 40-man roster. That spring, the club was using Joseph at third base and in the outfield, similar to Rhys Hoskins and Carlos Santana playing to the respective positions in 2018 for "versatility."
Joseph now joins fellow former Phillies slugger and teammate Darin Ruf in the KBO.
