The Philadelphia Phillies would like to add left-handed pitching this offseason, and the club would be hard-pressed to find a better southpaw reliever than that of 13-year veteran, two-time All-Star and 2016 American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player, Andrew Miller.
To no surprise — as just about every other high-talent free agent — the Phillies have interest in Miller, along with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets, among other teams, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi on Sunday.
Miller, 33, is coming off of an injury-riddled season that saw him finish with an ERA greater than 1.55 for the first time since 2015: 4.24. In 97 relief appearances from 2014-2017, Miller posted a 1.72 ERA, 51 saves, 421-67 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 0.789 WHIP spanning 261 innings and 1,007 batters faced.
The Gainesville, Florida, native's agent — Mark Rodgers — says Miller is "fully healthy," despite missing three months this past season with three disabled list stints due to knee, hamstring and shoulder injuries.
Per Morosi, Miller is "not yet close" to inking a new contract, but perhaps the annual Winter Meetings in Las Vegas commencing in exactly two weeks will progress negotiations.
