Phillies Generated 4th-Highest Attendance Revenue Increase From 2017 Season

While the 2018 Philadelphia Phillies season is considered by most a disappointment — especially given the club's collapse in the final few months of the season — released numbers are suggesting otherwise.

NBC Sports Philadelphia television ratings rose 23 percent, average fan attendance rose 13 percent, and according to Bloomberg, the Phillies saw the fourth-highest year-over-year change in attendnce revenue from the 2017 season, $13.2 million.

The Phillies had the highest year-over-year increase in ticket revenue alone, among all National League teams (Bloomberg).

Only the Houston Astros ($33.2 million), New York Yankees ($20.5 million) and Milwaukee Brewers ($14.5 million) saw a higher increase in attendance revenue, which encompasses both ticket sales and concessions. All three teams appeared in the 2018 postseason.

As the Phillies continue their planned stadium renovations this offseason, they surely are not refraining from spending their high-gaining revenue in order to improve fan experience.

Among a league that saw its lowest attendance since 2003, the "largest single-season attendance drop in a decade" — 4 percent — and a total attendance revenue decline of $141 million in 2018, the Phillies, at least numbers wise, are doing just fine.
