Philadelphia Phillies 12th-ranked prospect Daniel Brito was named as one of nine recipients of the 2018 Rawlings Gold Glove Award for defensive excellence on Monday, after posting a combined MiLB-best .988 fielding percentage among second basemen this past season with Class-A Lakewood and Class-A Advanced Clearwater.
Brito, 20, is the second Phillies second baseman prospect to win such honors in as many years. Scott Kingery similarly was a Gold Glove Award recipient in 2017, after also posting a MiLB second baseman-best .989 fielding percentage in 113 games.
The other eight 2018 Gold Glove Award recipients in the minor leagues include: Evan White (1B, Seattle Mariners), Blake Trahan (SS, Cincinnati Reds), Ke'Bryan Hayes (3B, Pittsburgh Pirates), Troy Stokes Jr. (LF, Milwaukee Brewers), Bryce Johnson (CF, San Francisco Giants), Logan Baldwin (RF, San Francisco Giants), Payton Henry (C, Milwaukee Brewers) and Bernardo Flores (P, Chicago White Sox).
The Phillies signed Brito as a free agent out of Ciudad Guyana, Venezuela, on July 14, 2014. Through 338 career minor league games, Brito is slashing .255/.325/.346 with 53 doubles, 13 triples, 12 home runs, 114 RBI, 43 stolen bases, 122 walks and 227 strikeouts.
