Despite speculation of a change in coaching staff due to their second-half collapse, Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler put such rumors to rest. According to the rookie manager, the entire Phillies coaching staff will return in 2019, as he told reporters prior to the club's Tuesday evening game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
The 2018 Phillies coaches and staff under Kapler includes:
- Craig Driver, Bullpen Catcher/Receiving Coach
- Jose David Flores, First Base Coach
- Jim Gott, Bullpen Coach
- Pedro Guerrero, Assistant Hitting Coach
- Rick Kranitz, Pitching Coach
- John Mallee, Hitting Coach
- Bob Stumpo, Bullpen Catcher/Catching Coach
- Rob Thomson, Bench Coach
- Dusty Wathan, Third Base Coach
- Chris Young, Assistant Pitching Coach
- Sam Fuld, Major League Player Information Coordinator
- Mike Calitri, Manager, Advance Scouting
One month from this Sunday will mark one year since the Phillies hired Kapler as their 54th manager in franchise history. It appears, for at least the opening stretch of the 2019 season, that the club will not be searching for a 55th.
