For just the second time of his 13-year Major League career, former Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels has hit a home run. Leading off the third inning of the Chicago Cubs' Monday evening contest against RHP Jameson Taillon and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Hamels hit out a 94 miles-per-hour fastball on a 3-1 count.
Hamels' previous and only other career home run came against RHP Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants at Citizens Bank Park in July 2012. Cain homered just a half-inning earlier in the same game. Both of Hamels' career home runs were hit while trailing. Each shrunk his teams' deficits to one run.

Entering his Monday start, Hamels has gone 4-1 with a 2.42 ERA and 1.137 WHIP spanning 10 starts since joining the Cubs in late July.
Hamels and fellow 2008 World Series champions Ryan Madson and Chase Utley, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, could very well face each other at some point during next month's postseason.
