In a preseason that has seen plenty of young talent shine for the Flyers, Oskar Lindblom and Carter Hart continued to impress.
Lindblom scored two goals in the first period, while Hart turned in spectacular save after spectacular save — 17 of which came in the 3rd period alone. Ten different players recorded at least a point for the Flyers, as they were able to roll to a 6-4 win against the New York Rangers.
While Lindblom earned three points, he wasn't the only Flyer to do so. Scott Laughton earned three assists, while Corban Knight recorded a goal and two helpers. Lindblom and Knight got the Flyers off to a 2-0 lead just over seven minutes over puck drop, but as Matt Beleskey put the Rangers on the board, Lindblom made it a 3-1 game with his second of the 1st period. A Ryan Spooner goal, however, sent both teams into the dressing room with a one-goal lead.
Dale Weise put the Flyers ahead, 4-2, on a power play 29 seconds into the 2nd stanza, but as Hart took the reigns, Pavel Buchnevich brought the Rangers back within a goal. German Rubstov followed up to give the Flyers a 5-3 lead, with his first of the preseason.
Just 3:05 into the 3rd, Filip Chytil brought New York within a goal once more, which was the only blemish in a remarkable period for Hart. Mikhail Vorobyev netted an insurance marker after taking advantage of a broken play in front of the Ranger net, and the Flyers were able to ride that to a 6-4 win.
Two days after making his much-ballyhooed preseason debut, Hart was as advertised for the Orange and Black. In two full periods of action, he made 25 saves on 27 shots, and was looking better and better as the game went along. Brian Elliott played the 1st period, making 11 saves on 13 shots.
Henrik Lundqvist yielded five goals on 22 shots for the Rangers, playing almost half the game. Former Lehigh Valley Phantoms netminder Dustin Tokarski took over from there, making 10 saves on 11 shots.
The win gives the Flyers their third consecutive victory, and leaves them at 3-1 so far this preseason.
The Flyers' preseason continues on Friday, as they head to PPL Center in Allentown for another matchup with the New York Islanders.
